Maitreey Charity

The Mission’s motto is “Manav seva is Madhav seva” viz Service to man is service of God. Charity or seva is an important ongoing activity of the Maitreey Mission.
Maa has dedicated her life for the up-liftment of Leprosy afflicted patients, their welfare in all possible ways. Her dream and desire is to bring them back into the normal stream. Maa emphasizes the importance of service to the most unfortunate ones, and she teaches to serve in devotion and dedication. Leprosy patients and their families are the most neglected lot, living in slums who have been scarred over the years by the stigmata of leprosy. They are not only disabled but also dispossessed and deprived of human kindness and care. The Mission and its members strive to provide a decent life to lepers and their families. Due to misconceptions about this disease even their perfectly normal family members are considered untouchables and outcastes forcing them to beg. The leprosy patients do not get any medical help, and that is where we step in. Due to their deformities and infections they are not attended to by doctors easily, and hence we have set up a free dispensary for leprosy patients and their families, under our Mission’s Arogyam Program, to cater to their medical needs.
The Mission is running a girls home for the girls of the leprosy patients under our “Vatsalyam Project for the Girl Child Programme”. Since the parents are affected with leprosy disease their children run a very high risk of getting this dreadful disease from them. In order to save these young children from the menace of leprosy we established the Home to remove them from such deadly disease and to help them settle with dignity.

Apart from service to leprosy patients the Mission also regularly organizes blood donation camps in coordination with Indian Red Cross Society. In the winter months the Mission regularly distributes woolen clothes and blankets to the underprivileged, homeless and destitute people.
